The greatest wildlife show on earth deserves more than a drive-by. On this seven-day safari we position ourselves where the migration actually is — calving grounds in the green season, river crossings in the dry — and stay long enough to witness it properly.

Route and camps are adjusted to the herds' position in your travel month.

Migration positioning by season River crossing vigils (Jul–Oct) Calving season predators (Dec–Mar) Ngorongoro Crater finale

Day by day

  1. 1

    Arusha → Tarangire

Warm-up day among the elephants and baobabs of Tarangire.

  2. 2

    Tarangire → Ngorongoro highlands

Morning game drive, then through Mto wa Mbu and up the Rift wall to the highlands.

  3. 3

    Into the Serengeti

Across the crater highlands and Olduvai Gorge into the Serengeti, heading for the herds.

  4. 4

    With the migration

A full day with the herds — wherever they are. Wildebeest to the horizon, and the predators that follow them.

  5. 5

    With the migration

A second full day. In crossing season we stake out the Grumeti or Mara rivers and wait — no hurry.

  6. 6

    Serengeti → Ngorongoro rim

One last Serengeti morning, then up to the crater rim for the night.

  7. 7

    Crater floor → Arusha

Dawn descent into the crater for the Big Five finale, then back to Arusha.
